Alfred Turnipseed was born April 4, 1967, in Columbia, South Carolina, the son of Martha Sims and the late Albert Turnipseed, and the stepson of the late John Sims. He was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 13, 2025, in Columbia, SC.
“Amp” as he was affectionately called by family and friends, was educated in the public schools of Richland County. He retired from the City of Columbia. Alfred was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of his life, the former Betty Jenkins with whom he spent twenty-one wonderful years of love, devotion, happiness, and a family that was filled with love.
Alfred joined Shining Light Apostolic Church at an early age where he attended faithfully and regularly until his health declined. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, uncle, and friend who loved his family. Though he is no longer physically with us, he has left a legacy of love to all those who loved and knew him.
In addition to his father and stepfather, he was also preceded in death by his grandmother, Lessie Gilmore Watson; and his sister, Martha Cornish.
Those who are cherishing fond and precious memories are his loving and devoted wife, Betty Jenkins Turnipseed; granddaughter, Jade Jenkins; mother, Martha Sims; sisters, Cynthia Watson and LaTita Miller; and stepdaughter, LaTorria Cantey; uncles, Issac (Mary) Watson and Alexander (Frankie) Watson; and a host of other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss him.
