Albertha Moore Obituary

Albertha Wells Moore was born April 14, 1940, in Walterboro, South Carolina.  She was the beloved daughter of the late Arthur Wells and Molley James.  Albertha peacefully transitioned into eternal life on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at her residence in Columbia, South Carolina.

“Bertha,” as she was affectionately called by family and friends, was educated in the public schools of Colleton County.  She was employed as an environmental service worker at Craft Farrow State Hospital for a few years when she met her husband, the love of her life, the late David Moore.  After their union, she was then employed at C.M. Tucker Nursing Center, from which she retired after many years of dedicated service.

Mrs. Moore was a longtime member of St. Paul Baptist Church where she was a dedicated member of the Ushers Ministry.  She enjoyed cooking for her family, her church family and friends.  She will be remembered for her wonderful sweet potato pies and her seven-layer potato salad, both of which were constantly requested.

Albertha will always be remembered for her infectious laughter, her bright smile and her genuine heart.  To know her was to truly love her.

Mrs. Moore was also preceded in death by her sisters, Annie Ruth Wise, and Irabelle Marshall; and a granddaughter, McKenzie Davis.

Those who will forever cherish Albertha’s fond and precious memories are her only child, her loving and devoted daughter, Jacqueline (McKinley) Davis of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Darryl House, Jr., Jacqueta Davis, McKinley Davis III; great-granddaughters, Karmani and Karmiah Jones, all of Columbia, SC; her loving brother, Dennis Wells of Walterboro, SC; her loving sister, Reva Williams of New York City, NY; two caring sisters-in-law, Mary Goins and Irene Durham, both of Ridgeway, SC; a host of nephews, nieces and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom join the family sharing the grief caused by her departure, but rejoice that she is resting with the Lord.
