Willie Sims, Jr. Obituary

"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be anymore pain: For the formal things are passed away."

Revelation 21:4

Willie Sims, Jr., was born December 9, 1950 in Hopkins, South Carolina.  He was the beloved eldest son of seven children, born to Mary Sims and the late Willie Sims, Sr.  On Tuesday, May 21, 2019, Willie departed this life at WJB Dorn VA Medical Center to meet his heavenly father.

Willie loved the Lord and was baptized and accepted Christ as his personal Savior at Sweet Home Baptist Church.  He was educated and received his diploma from Hopkins High School, Hopkins, South Carolina.  While in high school, Willie was recognized as an incredible track and field athlete and started a trade in auto body mechanics.

Upon graduation, Willie transitioned to the workforce as an amazing Sous Chef at Castbamboo House and later furthered his employment at Kentucky Fried Chicken.  Driven by his love for the food industry he expanded his career and went on to work for US Foods, (formerly known as PYA Monarch), where he retired in 2001.

Willie was married to the late Shirley Bailey-Sims and their Union was blessed with three beautiful children. He was a loyal, loving, dedicated forever learning dad and grandfather.

Willie, a man of distinguished taste, dress, and courage, touched the heart of many with his smile, charisma, generosity, work ethic and a tender heart. He enjoyed a good time and was known to "cut a rug" and own the dance floor. On occasion, he welcomed a great debate. But most times he just wanted to be heard and impart wisdom. He would say, "I'm not telling you what I think; I'm telling you what I know. Now listen...” He would follow up with “Now tell me what I just said."  LOL

Willie, the eldest son of seven children, his mother was the apple of his eye and his piece of heaven here on earth! He grew up loving the game of baseball. His hobbies included collecting baseball cards and exclusive coins, investments and love for acquiring classic cars. In his latter days, he was found at his happiest watching t.v or enjoying quite time taking a chance 'at the luck of the draw ;-). Though, physically he is no longer with us, his loving and kind spirit will forever live in the hearts and lives of many who loved and knew him.

Willie was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Sims, mother-in-law, Frank B. Jivers; father in-law, Artess Glover; one sister, Debra Sims; one sister-in-law, Dee Dee Williams; two brother in-laws, James Glover and Artess Glover, Jr.

Those who will forever cherish fond and precious memories of Willie are his mother, Mary Sims; children, Willie (Keisha) Glover, Nandis Sims, Victorious Joy (Rick) Sims-Thompson, Sabrina (Justin) Tillman, Andre Dreher, Kimberly (Mike) Wilson, all of Columbia ,South Carolina; eighteen (18) grandchildren who he loved dearly; five (5) great-grandchildren; three (3) loving and caring brothers, Larry Sims, John (Gwen) Saafir, and Johnny Cole; three (3) loving sisters, Betty Mack, Maryetta Sims, and Joann Burris all of Hopkins South Carolina;  four (4) sisters-in law, three (3) brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom join the family in sharing the grief caused by his untimely departure, but rejoice knowing that he is with the Lord.
