Wilhelmina Lawson Obituary

Wilhelmina Lawson was born March 29, 1943, in Columbia, South Carolina.  She was the second child of the late Elijah and Elouise Lawson.  She departed this life on Wednesday, June 12, 2019, to be with the Lord.

Wilhelmina was educated in the public schools of Richland County School District One.  She attended Waverly Elementary School, W. A. Perry Junior High School, and graduated from C. A. Johnson High School.  She has held several jobs throughout Columbia, including employment on Fort Jackson where she worked for several years.  Her last employment was with South Carolina State Hospital. She retired in 2005.

She was baptized at an early age and joined Fellowship Baptist Church, where she served and retained her membership until her death.  Wilhelmina has served on the Musical Choir, the Gospel Jubilee Choir and Jubilee Choir. She was considered a pillar to the church and her family.  As the matriarch of the Lawson family, she guided the rest of the family members to adhere to the word of the Lord.

Wilhelmina had many thrills and interest.  She enjoyed sitting with her family, slowly walking in stores shopping, reading novels, solving puzzles, and watching game shows and mystery series.  One of her greatest thrills is watching the DIY shows; however, she never picked up a hammer, except to put one beside her bed.

Wilhelmina was preceded in death by her parents, Elijah and Elouise Lawson; and five sisters, Mary Helen Chisolm, Elizabeth McKenzie, Julia Gage, Irene Lawson, and Juanita Lawson.

Wilhelmina G. Lawson leaves to cherish her precious memory: son, Michael O. Lawson, Columbia, SC; sister and brothers: Elijah Lawson, Columbia, SC; Henrietta Weston, Columbia, SC; MSGT Donald Lawson, Ret., Goldsboro, NC; and Dr. James Lawson, Oviedo, FL.  It also includes a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and caring friend, all of whom will miss her dearly.
