Mr. Vashon Cunningham, affectionately known as “Shon” was born on Mother’s Day, May 13, 1973, to the late William Leonard Cunningham and Eleana “Toni” Cunningham Marhiney. He was also raised by a loving stepfather, the late Frank Marhiney.
Shon was first introduced to Christ by his maternal grandmother, the late Ethel Mae Bethea, and began attending church at the Holy Temple where he was later baptized. He continued his walk of faith, living as a holy man of God. He made frequent visits to Refuge Temple and First Church.
Shon was a huge Clemson and Giants fan. He had a big heart and loved telling someone about church. He was the friendliest person you’d ever meet and had one beautiful smile that will forever be with us. He exemplified his love to his children and grands by traveling on family vacations and having family cookouts.
Shon was preceded in death by his parents, maternal grandmother, Ethel Mae Bethea; sisters, Christine Perkins, Linda Carpenter, and Alicia Cunningham; and brother, William Warren (Skeet).
Shon leaves behind to cherish his memories, children, Vashon Cunningham, Shaniqua Cunningham, Caleam Cunningham, and Ishabka Hampton; sisters, Lillian Taylor, Victoria (Terry) Anderson, Jeanette Carpenter-Johnson, and Ella Cunningham; brothers, Elliott Taylor, Eugene Perkins, and Robert Carpenter; a dear friend, Caprice Young; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends all of whom will miss him dearly.
