Timothy Grant Obituary

Timothy Jerome Grant was born on August 6, 1965 in Greenville, SC to the late John Melvin Grant, Sr. and Mamie Grant. He departed this earthly life on January 18, 2019 at Prisma Health Baptist Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina.

Timothy attended Greenville County Schools and graduated from Carolina High in 1983. He went on to attend the University of South Carolina in Columbia and graduated in 1987, earning the degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a focus in Management. While there, he pledged and became a Super Proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and remained active until his death. After graduation, Timothy was hired and worked for the SC Department of Social Services (DSS) for over thirty years until his passing.

Tim had a passion for serving others, which was on display throughout his life. His love for serving the community was only outshined by his love for serving God. Timothy learned to serve the Lord at an early age in Greenville, where he was a member of the I-85 Church of Christ. After moving to Columbia, he became an active member of the Park Street Church of Christ, now the Sunset Boulevard Church of Christ, since the church relocated to West Columbia.

Timothy exemplified Christianity in every aspect of his life, work and relationships. He loved his church family, his work family and his fraternal brotherhood of Phi Beta Sigma, Inc. and all those with whom he came in contact, living the commandment of Christ as recorded in John 13:34-35 KJV, where He says, "A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another." Tim never met a stranger. He had a passion, some might call it an obsession, for taking pictures and posting them on Facebook for the world to see. His life was an open book and taking pictures was his recording process. This is how he shared his friends with the world and by this, you knew you were his friend indeed.

Those left to cherish Timothy's precious memories; his beloved mother, Mamie Grant of Greenville SC; his beloved sister, Co-Thelma Tarrence of Easley, SC; three brothers, John Grant, Jr. of Simpsonville, SC, James Grant (Kathryn) of Chapel Hill, NC and Kenneth Grant of Greenville, SC; a brother-in-law, Lewis Tarrence of Greenville, SC; six nieces, Nakita Tarrence of Inman, SC, LaKresha Tarrence of Moore, SC, Sarah and Sondra Grant of Simpsonville, SC, Caroline Grant of Chapel Hill, NC and McKenzie Grant of Greenville, SC; six nephews, Lewis Tarrence III of Springfield, OH, Kyle, Andrew and Cameron Grant of Chapel Hill, NC, Quincy Brown of Greenville, SC and John Grant III of Simpsonville, SC; three great nieces; four great nephews; a special brother and friend, Louis Harvey and a host of other relatives and friends.
