Thelma (Thomas) McCray

Mrs. Thelma Thomas McCray was born on February 21, 1925, and departed this life on Friday, April 5, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.

Thelma was the daughter of the late Reverend Lennie and Lillian Belton Thomas. She received her education in the public schools of Lee County, South Carolina. She was baptized at an early age at the Elizabeth Baptist Church where she remained a faithful member until her death. Thelma loved the Lord and her church family. Thelma was a member of the Usher Board and Senior Choir. She was also the founder of the Community Singers. Thelma was a member of the Cantey Chapter O.E.S #178 for over fifty years.

Thelma was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Mr. Caleb McCray in 1945.

Thelma was also faithful to her community, she was a loving mother, grandmother, friend, and caregiver throughout the community.

Thelma was preceded in death by two sisters, Sadie Thomas, and Annie Mae Woodham; one nephew, Robert McCain; two children, Caleb McCray, Jr. and Annie McCray Porter; two sons-in-law, Willie Porter, and Simon Jackson Sr.; and two grandchildren, Richard Porter and Brenda Jackson.

Surviving to maintain Thelma’s Legacy are three daughters, Minnie Jackson of Cassatt SC, Mary (Jene) Jackson of Neptune, NJ, Jessie (James) Williams of Bishopville, SC; four sons, Lennie (Ann) McCray of Staten Island, NY, Earl (Betty) McCray, Delaware, PA, Thomas (Brenda) McCray of Bishopville SC, John T (Henrietta) McCray of Bishopville SC; 63 Grandchildren,  119 Great Grandchildren , 60 Great-Great  Grandchildren, a special cousin whom she took as a sister Mable  Smith, and a host of other relatives and friends.
