Takiyah Lashon Simmons was born January 15, 1980 in Columbia, South Carolina.  She was the beloved daughter of Mr. Carlton Vant and Ms. Tracy Simmons. On Monday, November, 13, 2017 at Lexington Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family and friends, God called home his newest angel.

“Tilly”, as she was affectionately known, graduated from Columbia High School and was employed by Bojangle’s for many years, until her health declined. She loved shopping at Walmart. Tekiyah was a loving fiancée, daughter, mother, sister, and friend. Her beautiful smile always came with open arms and a warm heart.

Takiyah was predeceased by her paternal grandmother, Edith General, and her maternal grandparents, James and Thelma Simmons, Sr.

Tilly leaves to cherish precious memories, her son, Tykiem Mayo, daughters, Heaven Myers and Bryanna Young of Columbia, South Carolina; her parents, Tracy Simmons of Columbia, South Carolina, and Carlton (Tonya) Vant of West Columbia, South Carolina; fiancé, Byron L. Young, Jr. of Columbia, South Carolina; a brother, Ricardo Simmons, also of Columbia, and stepbrother, Natrone-Derrick of West Columbia, South Carolina; and five sisters: Nikky King of Atlanta, Georgia, Brittney Simmons, Tiffany Jamison, Shirelle Simmons, and Samarya Grier, all of Columbia, South Carolina. She also leaves her mother- and father-in-law, Byron and Annette Young, Sr., and two stepchildren, Kishyron and Byron III, all of New Orleans, Louisiana; and a special cousin, Amir Jr. (Gouda), who she took under her wing as her own; as well as many aunts, uncles, other loving relatives and friends.
