Susanna Scott Obituary

God sent one of his angels to 213 Bynum Road, Eastover, South Carolina on the early morning of Saturday, October 27, 2018 to escort his loving servant, Susanna Juanita Hammond Scott to her sweet home in heaven.  She was born May 1, 1933 in Barnwell, South Carolina to the late Leon and Martha (Harley) Hammond.

She received her education in the public schools of Barnwell County, South Carolina and was a 1952 graduate of Butler High School. Later in life, she relocated to Columbia, South Carolina where she met and was united in holy matrimony to McKinley, Scott, Jr. on March 9, 1957. They were blessed with 61 years of marriage.

Her work affiliations include being a secretary, domestic worker and a worker for kingdom building. She was a member of the Emma Butler Tent # 141.

At an early age, she joined and was baptized at Jordon Baptist Church, Barnwell, South Carolina.  She later united and was an active member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Eastover, South Carolina where she served faithfully until her health declined.  She was an avid Sunday School attendant, a dedicated member of the Missionary Ministry, and served on the Usher Board Ministry for many years as Vice President and later as President.  She was also a Deaconess where she rendered her care, concern and compassion to others on this Christian journey.

Susanna exemplified the true epitome of a virtuous woman. Her “sweet sweet spirit” was contagious to those who knew her. Susanna was very supportive of her family and friends where she took great pride in their accomplishments.  She enjoyed cooking, flowering and gardening.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory, a devoted husband, McKinley Scott, Jr. of Eastover, South Carolina; two devoted sons, William (Linda) Scott and Karl L. Scott of Eastover, South Carolina; a loving and devoted daughter, Wanda Scott-Kinney of Eastover, South Carolina; step children, Marion Scott of Bronx, New York, Loretta and Norman Scott of Eastover, South Carolina; daughter-in-law, Bernice Scott of Hopkins, South Carolina.  She was preceded in death by her son Don Gregory Hammond, daughter Paula Scott, and her sister Jannie L. Jackson.  She will also be deeply missed by her two sisters, Minnie H. Ruff and Martha H. Sanders of Columbia, South Carolina; one aunt, Mamie Good of New York;  sister-in-laws, Emma Lee and Mae Bertha Scott of Eastover, South Carolina and Thomasina Scott of Columbia, South Carolina; brother-in laws, Willie Scott of Gadsden, South Carolina and Rudolph Scott of Eastover, South Carolina; ten grandchildren, (Lavell Wilson, Kendrick, Rodrick, Khelsey, Kimberly, Karla, Kendra, and Karl Scott, Donavon and Dishon Kinney); nine great-great grandchildren; her god-son, Jackie Robinson; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of loving relatives and friends, all of whom will miss her dearly.

Special thanks and appreciation is extended to her many caregivers, Tanisha Daniels, Tara Wilson, Lakeysha Conyers, Zenobia McKnight, and Audrey Jones for their unwavering love and support.
