Steven Martin Obituary

Steven "Spankey" Martin was born September 6, 1956 in Columbia, SC to the late Len Martin Jr. and Dorothy-Perkins Martin. Mr. Martin transitioned from this earth on Tuesday, March 6, 2018.

Mr. Martin was united in marriage to Cynthia M. Martin for 19 years. He grew up in the Saxon Homes community and years later moved into the Byrneswood neighborhood. While residing in Columbia, he attended First Nazareth Baptist Church and Ridgewood Baptist Church. He attended Richland County Public Schools.  Mr. Martin worked various jobs as a skilled contractor, painter and brick mason. His most recent employment was at Synder’s-Lance in Charlotte, NC.  Mr. Martin enjoyed fishing, watching the old westerns (just like his father), football (Washington Redskins), and basketball (Michael Jordan). He would do everything to help other people. “Spankey” was his nickname, but when you heard his voice from anywhere, you would know who it was before you seen him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Len Martin Jr. and brother, David “Buddy” Monroe Martin Sr. (the father of living Kendra D. Martin and Yolanda Walker of Detroit Michigan).

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Martin; children: Myron (Selina) Dickey, Jared Dickey, and Janee’ Dickey; mother, Dorothy-Perkins Martin; one sister, Janice Martin (the mother of Danielle and Nicholas Harrison); two brothers, Jackie L. Martin (the father of Tawanna G. Morrant, Demetrius Martin and Stephanie Ybarra) and Tony B. Martin and his fiancée Cynthia; mother-in-law, Jeanette Myers; one brother-in-law, Reggie Myers; three sisters-in-law; Janice (Charles) Geiger, Brenda Myers, and Regina (James) Cooper; a loving friend of the family, Rachel Harris, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
