Robert Harley Jr. Obituary

Deacon Robert F. Harley Jr. was born in Bamberg, SC to Mrs. Lucinda B. Harley and the late Mr. Robert F. Harley Sr.

Robert was a 1976 graduate of Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School, Bamberg, South Carolina. A very active and talented student, he enjoyed playing both sports – basketball and baseball. His love for the game of baseball allowed him to receive a scholarship at Grambling State University, Grambling, Louisiana. While at college, he excelled in his major of Political Science earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1980.

Robert was a member of numerous clubs and professional organizations, but his passion for the love of baseball bestowed him the honoree of the Ralph Garr Award. This honor was given to the baseball player with the highest academic average. After receiving his undergraduate degree, he earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the School of Law North Carolina Central University, Durham, North Carolina.

In 1986, Robert married the love of his life, Pauline Small and to this union of marriage were two children, Stephanie Harley and Robert F. Harley III. Robert and Pauline moved to Irmo, SC and became members of the St. Peter Baptist Church where Robert presently served on the board of deacons and as superintendent of the church school. He also served on the hospitality and brotherhood ministries. Deacon Harley was a faithful member always looking for opportunities to serve others.

Robert was employed with The South Carolina Administrative Law court handling Motor Vehicles hearings.

He was the Harley Family genealogy research lead, constantly seeking knowledge, history and information for family members.  Robert was also blessed to have gained “life knowledge” from his maternal grandparents – the late Virdle Loadholt Barnwell – Jordan, the late Clifton Jordan, Sr. and paternal grandfather, the late Cyrus G. Harley and paternal uncle, the late Clarence G. Harley, Sr.

He was preceded in death by: his father Mr. Robert F. Harley Sr.
