Ralph D. Lawson, affectionately known, as “Sweat Pea”, was born March 10, 1954 in Columbia, South Carolina to the late Rhudine Johnson and late Jasper Lawson. He was the fourth of eleven children. He departed this earthly life on Monday, June 18, 2018 at William Jennings Bryan Dorn V.A. Medical Center.
Ralph graduated from WJ Keenan High school in 1974 and served in the US Army.
He later married the late Marion Herrin. Ralph was employed in various sectors of employment throughout his life.
He was predeceased by daughter in-law, Stacie Ishmal; sisters, Rosa Lawson and Helen Merritt; brother in-law, Wilfred Salters, Sr., and sister in-law, Wanda L. Lawson.
He leaves behind to cherish his loving memories: sons, Jacques Ishmal and Donnell Lawson of Columbia, South Carolina; grandchildren, Jacques Shamar Ishmal, Jaila Ishmal, Sarenity Shanell Lawson, and Zion Donnell Thompson, all of Columbia, South Carolina; brothers, Jasper (Jay) Lawson of Somerset, Massachusetts, Li Lawson of Los Angeles, California, Charles Lawson of Hopkins, South Carolina, Louis Johnson of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and John (Pam) Johnson of Conyers, Georgia; sisters, Freda Johnson Day of Charlotte, North Carolina, Audrey Johnson and Thelma Salters of Columbia, South Carolina, Ethel Johnson of Roswell, Georgia, and a host of aunt, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends all of whom will miss him dearly.
