Mrs. Myrtis Tyler Sims departed this life to be with the Lord on Friday, November 24, 2017, at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia, South Carolina. She was born in Aiken, South Carolina on January 11, 1932. She was the beloved daughter of the late James and Elease Tyler.

Mrs. Sims was educated in Aiken County. She was a very likable person by all and fun to be around at all times.

At an early age, Myrtis joined Friendship Baptist Church in Sally, South Carolina. She later relocated to Orlando, Florida and became a watchcare member at St. John Missionary Baptist Church for many years. She then returned to Columbia, South Carolina, making it her home once again.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be missed by all who loved and knew her.

Mrs. Sims was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Sims; her parents, James and Elease Tyler; a daughter, Sandra Sims; two sisters, Arlene and Tina Tyler; and a brother, MT Tyler.

Those left to cherish precious memories of Myrtis are her five sons: James Sims of Orlando, Florida, Ernest, Thomas (Perrine) Sims and Nathaniel Sims, all of Columbia, South Carolina, and Andre B. Sims of  Washington DC; and five daughters: Varnett (Wallace) Goodwin of Columbia, South Carolina, Juanita Fryer of Seattle, Washington, and Cynthia and Linda Sims, both of Orlando, Florida. She also leaves two loving sisters, Grace (Heyward) Hancock of Aiken, South Carolina and Betty Dobie of New York; one brother, Willie Tyler of Vero Beach, Florida; 30 grandchildren, 80 great- grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, and caring friends, all of whom will miss her dearly.
