Matthew Jackson Obituary

Matthew Rogers Jackson of Atlanta, Georgia was the youngest child of the late William Edward Jackson and the late Naomi Bates Jackson.  God granted Matthew his final wish to come home to Columbia before he took his final flight, Thursday, November 21, 2019 at WJB Dorn VA Medical Center.

Matthew was a 1978 graduate of Lower Richland High School.  He continued his education at the University of South Carolina and earned a B.A. degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in 1982. Matthew later decided he wanted to serve his country after college.  He joined the United States Army and served from 1985 to 1998.   After the military career, he worked as a private contractor overseas in different countries such as Kuwait, Dubai and Iran. Matthew’s last employment was with DynCorp International as a transporter in The Marshall Islands.

Matthew never missed an opportunity to come home to Hopkins when he was state side. He enjoyed spending time with his family.

Matthew was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Edward, James and Randy Jackson.

He is survived by one child, Matthew Rogers Jackson, II.  Fond memories will be cherished by his brothers: Charles Jackson and Horace Bates of Hopkins, SC, Granville (Vivian) Jackson, Chester, SC, David (Ivery) Jackson, Eastover, SC, and Kenneth Jackson, Hopkins, SC; a special aunt, Mrs. Jessie Leak, Hopkins, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins and other loving relatives.
