Marvin Boyd II Obituary

The road was getting rough, the hills were hard to climb God gently closed Marvin’s eyes and whispered, “Peace be Thine.”  On Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at Richland Memorial Hospital, God stretched out his hand to Marvin Boyd, II and called him home to receive his wings.  He lived a full and happy life and we are honored to celebrate the dash between the day he entered the world and the day he left it.

Marvin was born on June 29, 1974 in Columbia, South Carolina to Pamela Boyd Young and the late Marvin Boyd.  His parents knew they had the perfect child which is why he was the only one.  He was educated in the public schools of Richland School District Two and graduated from Spring Valley High School.  Marvin was no stranger to work thanks to his Great Grandparents whom he called Big Daddy and Mother, who were instrumental in his life at an early age.  Big Daddy and Mother taught him to work in the family grocery store and at the age of ten, he could run the store all by himself.  He ordered groceries, stocked shelves, priced groceries, delivered groceries and sliced lunch meat and cheese.  He would get up 30 minutes early to open the store so his friends could come buy candy and sodas before catching the school bus.  So now you know where Marvin got his sharpe mind for business.

Marvin worked at Winn Dixie during high school and upon graduation, he used his sharpe mind for business and became the store manager and worked at numerous Winn Dixie locations throughout South Carolina.    Marvin went on to manage Little Caesars and Rent-A-Center before moving on to sell automobiles at Capitol Chevrolet.

Marvin accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at a young age and continued to keep His praise in his mouth.  When he was diagnosed with cancer, he decided to be joyful about having had a full life rather than be sad about having to die.  Meditation, prayer and his faith in the Lord helped him accept what he could not change and he is now at peace.  He was an active member in the community and at an early age, he joined Second Union Baptist Church.  Later in life, he moved his membership to First Calvary Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a trustee, and choir member.

Marvin enriched the lives of all who knew him. He enjoyed people, having fun, good food, happy times and loving on his family and friends. He was always the life of the party, our “go to guy’ for jokes and stories whether fiction or non-fiction, he made you laugh.  He was everybody’s friend and everybody loved him. He was a man of integrity and patience, a man of character and warmth, and he cared for others feelings and well-being above his own. His love was unconditional.  He provided countless lifelong memories for his family and friends that will be cherished forever.

Marvin was an extremely hardworking individual who was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and son.  He enjoyed watching his children play sports, sing in concerts and perform in plays and pageant.  His granddaughter was the apple of his eye.  When she was born, he was overjoyed to have finally had a girl as he already had three boys.  He was an avid sports fan. The San Francisco 49ers and the LA Lakers were his team and he always forgave those who were not avid fans.

When Marvin met the love of his life, Tereasa Pringle, she proclaimed on that day that she was going to marry him and when she sets her mind to do something, nothing gets in her way.   On July 20, 2002, they were married and the union was blessed with 15 years of love, happiness and three children.

Marvin was preceded in death by his father, maternal great grandparents (Robert and Mary Emma Brown), paternal great grandparents (Willie and Essie Metze), maternal grandparents (Samuel and Nannie Mae Lewis), paternal grandparents (Richard Allen and Nina Boyd) and father-in-law (Alfred Pringle).

Although his presence on earth is no more, precious memories will live forever in the hearts of his loving wife, Tereasa Pringle Boyd of Columbia, South Carolina; three boys: Darnez (Jasmin) Pringle of Kingsland, Georgia, Marvin, III and O’Marion of Columbia, South Carolina ; Granddaughter, Kailyn Marie Pringle, Mother and Step Father, Pamela and Jesse Young of Columbia, South Carolina, Mother-in-law, Rethea B. Pringle of Ridgeville, South Carolina and a host of devoted aunts, great aunts, uncles, great uncles, sister-in-law’s, brother-in-law’s, nieces, nephews, cousins, mentors and other loving relatives and friends, all of whom will miss Marvin dearly.
