Ms. Martha Ray Moultrie Williams Sease was born in Orangeburg County, South Carolina on May 5th, 1938 to the late Peter and Wodell Moultrie . Affectionately known as Martha Ray by her family and close friends, she was the oldest of three children born to that union. She departed this life peacefully on Monday, November 12th, 2018.
Martha Ray was preceded in death by both of her siblings Varnice Thompson and Charles Moultrie Sr., son Delbert Andre Williams, cousin raised in the home, Pearl Fitzgerald, husband Paul Sease, and life long friend Otis Evans.
Martha Ray joined Gilbert Memorial Missionary Baptist Church of Columbia, S.C. at an early age. She later Joined Taylor Memorial Baptist Church where she served as a Deaconess and sang on the Gospel Choir.
Martha Ray was educated in the public schools of Richland County and received a Certificate of Dietitian from Midlands Technical College. She worked for the Department of Mental Health as a Dietary Supervisor at the CM Tucker Center and State Park Mental Health Facility. She Retired after 25 years of dedicated service. After retirement she volunteered as a Classroom Grandparent for Richland School District 2. Her favorite hobby was crocheting blankets and other items for her family.
Martha Ray leaves to cherish her memory: a son Carroll Ronnie Williams II., a daughter Sonia (James) Goines both of Columbia, SC. One half-sister Margaret Lewis of Brooklyn, NY. An adopted brother Albert Moultrie of N.Y., 2 adopted sisters Leatha Pou and Sandra Moultrie, both of Columbia, SC. Aunts Mary Clyde Dantzler and Bertine Castleberry, both of Columbia, SC. Sister-In-Law Shirley Moultrie of Woodhaven, MI. 6 Grandchildren Carol (Terrence) Hall, Lamont Hair, Peteria Turner, Adrian Keller, Jessica Skinner, and Tyler Williams, all of Columbia, SC. 15 Great-Grandchildren, and a host of Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and friends.
