Maragaret Banks Obituary

Margaret Eartha Scott Banks was born on October 13, 1937 in Columbia, South Carolina. She was the beloved daughter of late Edward and Maggie Chavis Scott. After a brief yet extensive illness, God stretched out his hand and called her home on February 7, 2019 at her home in Columbia, South Carolina.

Margaret was educated in Richland County public schools. She is graduated from CA Johnson High School in 1950. Continuing her education, she received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Education from Allen University, and additional credit hours in mathematics at Boston University, Simmons College, and North Carolina A&T University. After graduation, Margaret became an educator, primary in Mathematics, in Aiken County and the Department of Juvenile Justice. She served more than 25 years as a teacher at John G Richards, Willow Lane and Birchwood.

At an early age, Margaret was baptized at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Eastover, South Carolina. In her later years, she joined Holy Spirit Lutheran Church in Columbia, South Carolina. With her love for teaching, she connected her skills of education to her spiritual life by becoming a Sunday School teacher for many years.

On July 26, 1960, she was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Benjamin Landon Banks of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania and was blessed with a daughter, Avondale.

Margaret, loving known as “Peg”, “Molly”, “Scookie,” and “Granny” was a caring, humorous, and loving person. Those who knew her best knew she was a food connoisseur, having a knack for fine dining. She also loved brain games, sewing, computer games, and traveling with her sister Mildred and friends. Most of all she enjoyed her girls, her daughter, grand-daughter, and great granddaughter. Though she is no longer with us, Margaret will forever linger in our hearts and memories

She is also preceded in death by her sister, Mrs. Addie Lee Argroe, brother, Mr. Kenmaynard Scott, brothers-in-law, Mr. Paul Argroe and Mr. Thomas Williams, sister-in-law, Mrs. Anne Williams and son-in-law, Mr. Dwight S. Simons.
