Maggie Taylor Holloway was born on April 3, 1934 in Columbia, SC. She was the daughter of the late D. Taylor and Willie Ann Mickens Jenkins. She departed this earthly life on Wednesday, April 3, 2019.
She was a graduate of C.A. Johnson High School and further her education at Benedict College where she received her Bachelor’s Degree for Social Workers. At an early age, she became a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Columbia, SC. As an adult, she relocated to New York and began worshipping her Lord and Savior there. Her most recent worship journey was at New Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey, where she served faithfully as the mother of the church. One of her favorite sayings was: “If God can’t do it, it can’t be done.”
She was united in Holy Matrimony to William Holloway. “Mag” as she was affectionately known to by many was employed by Department of Social Services in New York for forty plus years. She had a passion for her work and found spiritual fulfillment in providing services and helping others.
Maggie was always full of life. Her witty ways and warm smile were infectious. She took on and embraced city living but she never gave up her love for cooking down home soul food. She was always a savvy dresser and took pride in adorning herself with many different hair styles.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, William Holloway; her parents; and her brother, George Mickens.
Maggie leaves to cherish her precious memory: her son William Taylor, Sr.; two granddaughters Tina Shade of Virginia Beach, VA and Latisha Taylor, Columbia, SC; two grandsons William Taylor, Jr. of Columbia, SC and Lewis Taylor, Clarksville, Tennessee; her brother in law, Bobby Holloway; goddaughter Sandra Jones, Philadelphia, PA; and a host of great-grands, relatives and friends.
