Mr. Leon Benjamin Nelson was born on August 22, 1925, in Eastover, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Washington Nelson and Minnie Gibson Nelson.
He departed his earthly life for a greater glory on Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at 94 years of age at the home of his step-daughter, Willene Session.
Leon attended Richland County Schools. After graduation, he enlisted in the army to serve his country. Upon leaving the military, he was employed by Allied Van Lines and Mayflower moving companies. He retired at the age of 62.
He was married to the late Mrs. Ivory Lee Nelson.
Prior to his illness, he attended Columbia Adult Senior Program. He enjoyed attending the senior day program and was well-liked by the other participants especially the women.. He liked watching his favorite show was Price is Right and let’s make a deal, as well as westerns
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and sister, Jesse Hall.
Those left to cherish his loving memories include his sister, Evelyn Reuben McKims, of St. Albans, New York; three children: Rosemary Zann of New York City, Linda Nelson of Goose Creek, SC and Ricky (Stephanie) Nelson of Hopkins, SC; step-children: Percy (Sandra) Smith of Columbia, SC, Luther Gaston and Willene (Marion) Sessions both of Columbia, SC, and Rebecca (Prince) Robinson of Bronx, New York; A host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by Wallis Ann Grant who was like a daughter to him and his cousin and best friend James Murray.
