LeeDoris Bittle Cummings was born on September 2, 1935 in Chesterfield County, SC and departed this life on October 28, 2019. She was the beloved daughter of the late Eugene and Allie Lee Bittle.
She attended the public schools of Chesterfield County, SC and Anson County, NC. She was a graduate of Community Hospital School of Nursing, Wilmington, NC. She completed additional studies at City University of New York, Flushing, NY and DePaul University in Chicago, IL. She was a Certified Psychiatric/Mental Health Registered Nurse by the ANA. She was also a nurse for the South East Youth Conference and retired from the South Carolina Department of Mental Health as a Nurse Manager II. She was also commissioned as a parish nurse by the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC).
Ms. Cummings was a member of Zion Canaan Baptist Church where she served as a former Sunday School teacher, Trustee, Stewardship member, Missionary Circle member, member of the Health Ministry, President of the Nurse’s Guild and parish Nurse.
She was one of the co-founders the Columbia Health Care Auxiliary Unit and served as treasurer of the SC Baptist Educational and Missionary Convention Nurses Unit.
Ms. Cummings was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Antoinette Cummings. She is survived by two sisters Sandra (James) McQueen of Columbia, SC, Brenda Kennedy of Charlotte, NC; three brothers, Burnice (Margie) and Ralph (Teresa) both of Charlotte, NC and Kenneth (Camalah) of Cheraw, SC; a loving Sister-In-Law, Yvonne Bittle of Charlotte, NC; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
