Junne Jones, better known by family and friends as JR, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2019 at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood, SC.
He was born on July 6, 1956 in Columbia, SC to Mary L. Jones and the late David Jones, Sr. Junne, a 1974 graduate of Lexington High School, attended South Carolina State University and later graduated from South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.
JR devoted several years of his life serving in Law Enforcement. He began patrolling the roads of McCormick in 1978 and continued to rise through the ranks ultimately gaining the rank as a Captain. He served for 31 years as a dedicated member of the South Carolina Highway Patrol where he retired in 2009. He later served as the Chief of Police for the town of McCormick for 6 years.
JR was a faithful member of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a trustee, church photographer, member of the Pastor’s Aid Ministry, and the Project Manager of the Learning and Development Center.
Junne was born the sixth of seven children, and was preceded in death by his father, David Jones, Sr., sister, Eleanor Jones, and brother, David Jones, Jr. He leaves to cherish his memories: his beloved wife of 37 years, Linda Tompkins Jones; three children, Gavin (Brittany) Jones of Loganville, GA, Brandi (Byron) Bibbs of Graniteville, SC, and Tycia (Darwin) Wright of North Augusta, SC; four grandchildren, Reo, Baylee, Grayson, Jaxen; and special God-daughter, Layla Maston. He also leaves to cherish memories, his mother, Mary L. Jones of Lexington, SC; two brothers, Alfred D. Jones of Lexington, SC, and Clayton (Sandra) Jones of Gilbert, SC; two sisters, Lula Simon of Orangeburg, SC and Joyce Jones of Lexington, SC; mother-in-law, Amanda Tompkins of McCormick, SC; three sisters-in-law, Pearlene (Eddie) Talbert of McCormick, SC, Anita (Clarence) Robinson of Greenwood, SC, and Sandra Tompkins of Columbia, SC; two brothers-in-law, Roy (Minnie) Tompkins III, and Quenton (Teresa) Tompkins, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
