Juanita L. Richards, age 67 of Columbia, South Carolina passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2018. She was born to the late Henry C. DeLaine and Ernestine L. DeLaine on August 16, 1950 in Brooklyn N.Y.
Juanita’s first job was as a counselor where her gift for lifting people up first flourished. After that she worked for AT&T in New York City for many years before retiring and moving to South Carolina. Nita (to her family & friends) was a true giver. She took joy in helping others. Juanita was a great listener and adviser. She was a confidant to many and had the ability to provide a solution to any situation one may be going through.
Juanita met and fell in love with Delvin O. Richards in 1971. They solidified their bond by getting marrying in 1972. Their family grew in 1973 with the birth of their son Delvin T., and again in 1976 with the birth of their daughter Nichelle.
Juanita found the love for driving later on in life. She obtained her driver’s license for the first time at the young age of 62, which became her second love next to the love for her grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, often caring for them during the summer months.
Along with her husband Delvin and their two children, Juanita’s life will continue to be celebrated by her grandson Rasean, four granddaughters Amari, Na’Kyah, La’Niyah, and Nala. Her sister Natalie Swanson, nephew Robert Swanson, adopted daughter Ashley, brother-in-law Flicker Richards, sister-in-law and best friend Angie Richards and a host of family and friends.
