Deacon Jerry Lee Wilson, Sr., son of the late Ellie Wilson and Sara Wilson (Small), was born on August 5, 1933 in Bishopville, SC. Deacon Wilson’s earthly life ended on January 22, 2020. He is survived by his youngest brother Joe Wilson. He was proceeded in death by his wife of 38 years Bernice Wilson (House).
Deacon Wilson graduated from the Lee County School system, and he later enlisted in the Army. After serving, he earned certifications in radio repair, brick masonry and a master mechanic from Midlands Technical College. He later went on to drive taxi for Blue Ribbon Cab Company, a career that lasted 38 years.
Deacon Wilson was a proud member of Antioch Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and sang with many groups such as the Jubilee Choir, Reese Memorial Singers, Musical Choir, Male Choir and the Stead Fast Singers. He served on the Deacon Board, Brotherhood and Advisor to the Pulpit Aid. Antioch was his life; it is where he came to Christ and served faithfully throughout the church’s organization wherever he was needed for over five decades.
Left to mourn his passing are his two daughters Marie Wilson and Joyce Mullins, six sons Terry House, Thomas House, Jerry L. (Portia) Wilson, Jr., Joseph Wilson, Marion Wilson and Lindsey (Ursula) Wilson, and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He has one late son, his oldest, Timothy House.
Deacon Wilson was a faithful servant of the Lord whose greatest pleasure was spreading the gospel of Christ, doing his best to represent the Lord in the most positive way possible. He loved his family, each and every one of them, from his wife, children, all relatives and especially his grandchildren. He was the kindest soul one could ever hope to meet, slow to anger, quick to forgive. His light shined bright and never a mean word proceeded his name.
Deacon Wilson was an amazing example of a Christian and very few will bear his likeness again. Daddy will be missed as he goes on to reunite with his beloved wife and join that heavenly choir. We have lost an amazing father, brother, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend while heaven has reclaimed a true servant/soldier of the Lord.
We loved him and he will be missed.
