Mrs. Jennie Smith Johnson died on Saturday, May 26, 2018 after an extended illness. She was born in Orangeburg, South Carolina to the late James “Pud” and Annie Lizer Jamison Smith. She was a devoted wife to James A. Johnson, Sr.
Mrs. Johnson accepted Christ at an early age in life. She was a member of Brown Chapel AME Church, Cameron, SC, Faith Tabernacle Deliverance Temple, Orangeburg, SC, and Zion Chapel Baptist Church No. 1, Columbia, SC. She was also a member of Ephesus Seven Day Adventist Church. She served as Leader of the Senior Ministry. She enjoyed and studied the Sabbath School lessons and was eager to participate.
Mrs. Johnson attended schools in Orangeburg, SC and graduated from Wilkinson High School, where she was a member of the Wolverine Band. After graduation, she moved to Jersey City, NJ where she enrolled in Nursing. She graduated with a Nursing degree as an LPN. She had a long career in nursing. She exceeded in expected duties and dedication when she cared for her patients and family members that needed nursing care. She was employed and later retired from the Department of Corrections.
Mrs. Johnson was a dedicated Missionary and served many months in Haiti and Africa doing duties as a nurse to people that needed help and healthcare.
Mrs. Johnson was a dedicated and devoted mother.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Joseph Felder, Enoch Dantzler, George Dantzler, James Smith, Jr. and Hercules Smith and three sisters, Willie Mae Johnson, Betty J. Mikell, and Mamie Blackwell.
She is survived by her husband, James A Johnson, Sr.; children: Beverly (Ernest) Page of Orlando, FL, Michael DeMore, (Margie Lockamy) of Goose Creek, SC, Marilyn (Bernard “Bobby”) Dash of Clermont, FL, Alvin (Ann) DeMore of Goose Creek, SC, Yvonne DeMore of Columbia, SC, Anthony (Johanina) DeMore of New York, NY; step-children: Alva L. Johnson of Austin TX, James A. Johnson Jr., Britney Johnson, and Leif Johnson all of Columbia, SC.; sisters, Doris Rivers of Bronx, NY, Gloria Ann (T.J.) Williams of Columbia, SC; brother, Zinnie Dantzler of Bronx, NY, seventeen grandchildren, three great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends. She also leaves a Special Friend, “Her Guardian Angel”, Ms. Dean.
