Jasper Robert Anderson, Jr. was born in July 20, 1944 in Columbia, South Carolina. He made his transition to eternal life on September 20, 2019 at Providence Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina after a brief illness.
Jasper, Jr. was the second oldest and the first son of Beatrice Jacobs Anderson and the late Jasper Robert Anderson, Sr. He had a rich family legacy that reached back as far as the 1800’s. His maternal grandfather, Rev. Louis Jacobs was a Baptist Pastor. His paternal great-grandfather, Alexander Ballad left Columbia and joined the Union Army in Charleston, South Carolina, making him one of the first African American Soldiers who rode horseback during the Civil War. His love of horses while in Texas as a youth came naturally. He was also the great-nephew of Celia Dial Saxon for whom Saxon Homes and Saxon School was named. His father was an entrepreneur having owned several successful businesses and Jr. was his most ardent partner or employee, particularly at his nightclubs and Anderson Motors of Columbia.
Jasper, Jr. and his family lived in the Booker Washington Heights during his early years, prior to moving to the Eau Claire area of Columbia. He attended the public segregated schools in Columbia, South Carolina during the 1940’s and 1950’s. He later matriculated at Richland Tech obtaining a degree.
Jasper, Jr. was baptized at an early age at his family’s home church, St. John Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Emeritus, Reverend Roscoe C. Wilson where he and his nine siblings were nurtured in the faith. He later joined every church his sister, Gail pastored in the A.M.E. Church while serving in Columbia. He later went back to his family church where he was a member until his transition.
Jasper, Jr. loved life and lived it to the fullest, spending time with family and working at his hobby of tinkering with things in his mother’s yard. He spent time on a dude ranch in Texas as a youth and rode horses as fast as he loved driving cars.
Jasper, Jr., was a loving Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife of over twenty–; s-seven years, Casandra Brown Anderson, who was there loving and caring for him to the very end; no children were born to this union. He leaves to deeply morn his mother, Beatrice Jacobs Anderson. His children from previous marriages, Tammy Anderson, Columbus, Georgia J. Robert Anderson, III, Jeremy, LaShona, Jovian, Camara, Courtney Anderson and three stepchildren, Crystal, Carlos Brown and Adam Black all of Columbia, S.C.; siblings, Beatrice Deloris Anderson Burrell of Columbia, Marian Alicia Anderson Roberts, (Eugene, Sr.)–Baltimore, Maryland; Susan Elexis Anderson – Columbia, S.C., Vivian Arnita Anderson Robinson, (Renrick) Grand Prairie, Texas; Dr. Charlene Adelia Anderson Johnson (Rodney), Upper Marlboro, Maryland; Ret. Major Ronald Errol Anderson (Dr. Brenda), Bowie, Maryland; Ret. Major Donald Edward Anderson, I (Sandra), Mitchellville, Maryland and Rev. Dr. Esther Gail Anderson Holness, Esq. Washington, DC. Deceased brother, Ret. Major – Rev. Dr. John Lewis Anderson. He leaves his brother-in-law and sister in law, Denise Brown of Columbia, SC and Timothy Brown of Charlotte, NC. His legacy includes 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and a host of nephew, nieces, cousins and dear friends who will all miss his presence.
