James Russell Taylor, Sr.

James R. Taylor Sr. was born on September 20, 1949, in Columbia, South Carolina. He was the son of Julia Amanda Taylor and raised by his step-father, Horace Lee Gadson. He departed this earthly life on January 28, 2019.

James was educated in the public schools of Richland County of Columbia, SC. After high school, he joined The United States Army and served from 1969-1971. After his service in The United States Army, James then worked in the tire industry. He was a dedicated employee of Cate-McLaurin Tire. He also was an amateur golfer and avid fisherman until his health failed.

James was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Patricia Ann Taylor, of 25 years; five brothers, Jerome, Lucius, Angelo, Bernard, and Patrick Taylor; and two sisters, Margaret Wilson Smith and Gwendolyn "Gwen" Gadson.

Mr. Taylor leaves to cherish his memories, one sister Teresa Ann Taylor; two brothers, Wayne Gadson and Horace Gadson, Jr.; his daughter, Tori (Gaines) Salvant IV; four sons, James (Denise) Taylor Jr., Damien Michael Taylor, Jamie (Dominique) Bennett, and Shelton Brown; 15 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other living relatives, friends, and his pet dog “Tea Cup”.
