Mr. Jacob Benjamin Wright was born on August 27, 1925, in Orangeburg County to the late Jake “Mr. Woody” Wright and the late Maggie Garvin Wright. After an extended illness, he departed this life and entered into an eternal sleep on Monday, June 3, 2019.
Affectionately known as “Jay” he was educated in Orangeburg County Schools. He worked on a farm where he learned many skills he used later in life. He worked many years for Spoan Construction Company and later joined the State Highway Department where he retired after over twenty years of service.
Mr. Wright was a faithful member of Jehovah Baptist Church where he was a member of the Missionary Society. He lived a modest life. He enjoyed fishing and working with his hands making unusual furniture.
He was preceded in death by both parents, his wife of sixty years, Wonner Mae Yon Wright, his sister Pearl E. Hoffman and brother Layen Wright.
Mr. Jacob Wright leaves to cherish his memory: four daughters; Maggie Trippett of Havre de Grace, Maryland; Paulette Gardner of Columbia, SC; Lutricia Ware of Charlotte, NC and Shirley Stover of Hallandale, Florida; four grandchildren, Martinea, Sonya, K. Peter and Cheryl Wonner; one great-grand, Asjia; one great-great grand, Shiyirah and a host of nieces, nephews and relatives.
