IdaMae B. Nelson

August 15, 1946 ~ July 29, 2019 (age 72) 72 Years Old

IdaMae Nelson Obituary

IdaMae Brown Nelson was born August 15, 1946 in Millan, Georgia.  At an early age, Ida moved to the Wheeler Hill Community in Columbia, SC. She was affectionately called “Georgia” by friends.  Ida began her educational journey at Florence C. Benson Elementary School and then to Booker T. Washington High School. 

Ida became a fluent cook under the wings of her mother Daisy.  They both worked at S&S Cafeteria.  Ida moved on to work for the University of South Carolina where she received numerous awards and recognitions for her outstanding performance in the kitchen.  Ida retired from Sodexho at Capstone on the campus of the University of South Carolina in 2003.

Ida was a loving and caring person, she savored her journey, good friends, good times, loving, giving and caring for she opened her heart and doors to many.  Ida loved her grandchildren and spending time with them.

Ida loved church and loved praising the Lord.  She always had a scripture from the bible for any situation she or friends were going through.  She joined the Second Union Baptist Church in the Taylor’s Community under the leadership of the current pastor, Reverend Andrew B. Scott.  Ida loved her church and church family.  She served on the Usher Board until her health declined. 

Ida was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Nelson and two sons, Rodney Brown, Sr., and Mark Anthony Brown, Sr.

Those left to cherish her precious memories are her brother, Marvin Brown of Columbia, SC; loving grandchildren, Vincent Young, Rodney Brown, Jr., Whitney Brown, Gabilella Myers, and Mark Anthony Brown Jr. all of Columbia, SC; one great granddaughter, Shakima Blanding of Columbia, SC and their mothers Nancy Young and Alma Erwin Brown; sister-in-law, Linda Nelson, brothers in-law, Larry (Loretta) Anderson and Anthony Anderson all of Columbia, SC; a special son, Stacy Harris; dear friends, Lucy and Shirley, whom she affectionately called “SISTA’S”, and a host of loving cousins, relatives and friends all of whom loved her and will truly miss her dearly.
