Henry Thomas Young, Sr.

Mr. Henry T. Young, Sr. was born December 12, 1941. In St. Matthews, South Carolina to the late Charlie Young, Sr. and Adeline Porterfield. He departed this earthly life to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 19, 2019.

Henry was an excellent Auto Mechanic. He worked in Flushing, NY for many years until he moved to Columbia, South Carolina with his family in 1975. Henry was a great pioneer in the Ridgewood Community at Young’s Body Shop. Henry was united in holy matrimony to the late Emmaline Preston Edmond Young.

Henry, at an early age, was a member of Second Mount Beulah Baptist Church in St. Matthews, SC. He enjoyed Quartet Gospel singing. Henry was a singer with the Gospel Kings in NYC, as well as the Five Singing Sons of North, SC. Henry was an inspiring light to so many who would to come to the shop for laughter.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Gladys Y. White, Earthly Young, Charlie Young, and Rudolph Young.

Henry leaves to cherish his memories, his four children, Bernadette “Shanay” (Greg) Starks, Henry T. Young Jr., Shelia Y. Jones, and Andre Young; four grandchildren, Greg Starks, Jr., Brandon Starks, Steven Jones, and Shakena Jones; five grandchildren, Brandon Starks, Jr., Dallas Starks, Karmani Jones, Karmiyah Jones, and Maleeyah Grace Starks; sister, Estelle Bowman of Alexandria, VA; brother, Dennis Young-Wiladean of Columbia, SC; a very special and devoted loving friend, Ms. Sara Ann Roberts; and a host of in laws, nieces, nephews, and caring friends.
