Harry Brown Obituary

Mr. Harry Brown was born August 26, 1940, in Columbia, SC. He was the youngest of eight children, to the late Lowman and Edith Milligan Brown.

Mr. Brown finished his “good fight of faith,” February 2, 2019, at Pruitt Health of Ridgeway, SC.

Mr. Harry was educated in the public schools of Richland County District One. He was employed and retired from The State Newspaper in Columbia, SC in 2003.

Mr. Brown joined Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church at an early age and later became a trustworthy Trustee and hard-working Sexton until his health prevented him from doing so. Harry was also a faithful member of The Zion Pilgrim Usher Board from 1970 until death. A man that never saw it robbery to serve his God and his church.

Mr. Harry was a loving father who always made sure his family was provided for, especially his daughter Debra. He was more than a comfort for his sisters and brothers and very faithful friend to all.

He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Mrs. Isabell Green Brown of 37 years, who preceded him in death. In addition, he was preceded in death by his son, Calvin D. Brown; four sister, Martha Brown, Maybelle Gibbs, Irene McKnight, and Bessie Dreher; three brothers, LeMuel Brown, Henry Brown, and Lowman Brown, Jr.; three sisters-in-law, Alberta Green, Florence Sykes, and Maggie Salley; and two brothers-in-law, Israel Mickens, and Otis Salley.

Left to cherish the memories of his life are two daughters, Lisa Brown, and Debra Brown; one son, Clark (Tonya) Brown, all of Columbia, SC; six grandchildren, Calvin (Brittiany) Brown, Kakita Townsend, Joseph Brown, Chantel Brown, and Clark Brown, Jr.; six great-grandchildren, Tanasha’ Brown, Tailyn-Ariell Young, Townsend Baker, Imrky Baker, Jaceon Brown, and Teiger Isaiah Brown; three sisters-in-law, Naomi Wilson, Ernestine Mickens; a brother-in-law, Ernest (Helen) Green; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends who will miss him dearly.
