Harold Charles Obituary

Harold Charles was born on September 1, 1950, in Florence, South Carolina. He was the fifth of eight siblings born to the late Harry and Francine Charles.

In 1958, his family moved to Brooklyn, New York where he acquired his early education at PS 297 and J.H. School 33.  His family resided in Brooklyn for more than fifteen years then moved to Jamaica, Queens, New York. Harold attended and graduated from Richmond Hill High School.  Years later his parents retired and moved to Columbia, SC and not long afterwards Harold  relocated there as well.

While in Columbia, Harold was employed at The Allied Chemical Plant.  It was during this time that he met the love of his life... Ms. Sindy Cunningham.  After a two- year courtship Harold made a decision that would forever change his life.  He married his sweetheart, Sindy.  Thus, beginning a new chapter in his life. It was here he then became affectionately know as Chuck.

Harold Charles and his lovely wife Sindy Charles relocated to Atlanta, Georgia in 1984. Harold continued his career in law enforcement. Harold worked for several well-renowned law enforcement facilities, The Security Group, Emory Healthcare, Grady Healthcare, and later retired from Piedmont Henry Healthcare System in 2014.

Harold lived life to the fullest and never met a stranger; and everyone he encountered he would tell them about the goodness of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! During his later years in sickness, Harold was still praising God and continued to fight.

But as most know Harold loved to talk.  Harold was a spirited conversationalist who was apt to convince you his theory was correct.  He was passionate!  His smile contagious and heartfelt laugh made you feel welcome.   If you were in his presence, he made you feel like family.

Harold accepted the Lord as his personal Savior under the leadership of Rev. Leon C. Dicks.  Harold’s passion to serve the Lord lead him down many paths. He re-dedicated his life in his later years to Christ and became sold out to God.  In Atlanta GA he attended Victory Tabernacle Church under Bishop Carolina Horton.  Here he enjoyed singing with the Sons of Faith and serving on the usher board. Additionally, he supported the building of The Apostolic Faith Church in Columbia, SC as well as attended for a few years.  He also reached out to support One Step at a Time Ministries, in Jonesboro, GA.   He believed that to give was a true expression of the love that God had given to him. Thereby, causing him to become a generous giver. Harold gave financial support to the work of the Kingdom of God.  As a need was presented, Harold could always be counted on to help fulfill it.

Harold was a family man, he loved his wife and son.  When they were together you were always greeted with a Big smile and long conversations - even when he became ill- day or night- he could talk for hours.   At times when you intended to cheer him up, he would have you laughing before long.  Many discussions had with him left you reflecting on his never-ending and unyielding faith in God and love for his family.

Harold endured many health challenges, however through it all he always managed to share his unwavering confidence in the word of God.  He would often tell his family “I would rather have ten good days than 100 bad days.”  He answered his eternal call on Saturday, May 11, 2019.  He will be sorely missed.

Harold leaves to honor and cherish his memory to his wife Sindy Charles of 35 years and son Caleb Charles. Two sisters Virginia Pressley and Ruthie Purvis and five brothers Harry Charles, Joe Charles and Clifton Charles, and the two brothers that preceded him in death David McClary and James Charles, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and church family.
