Gregory Keith Bellinger was born May 7, 1954 in New York, New York. He was the youngest of three children born to Irma Kohn the late Eugene Bellinger. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Yvette and Dwayne.

“Slim”, as he was affectionately known, attended John Adams High School in Jamaica Queens, New York. Growing up, Slim loved to play basketball and was known on the court for his hard-to-stop “finger roll”. His love for music led him to learning to play the trumpet.

After high school, Greg began working for the United States Postal Service. Working long hours and rotating shifts prompted him to make a career change. That’s when he decided to join the United States Army. After serving two years in the Army, he became a Medic in the United States Navy. Following an honorable discharge, he returned home and worked in different capacities of the medical field, including as a Lab Technician and an EMT. His career took him from Long Island Jewish Hospital in New York to a private practice in Columbia, South Carolina to the WJB Dorn VA Medical Center before retiring.

He was a devoted son, caring for his sick mother in his home until his own health declined. He continued visiting his mother in her new home, spending so much time with her that the entire staff got to know him and missed his visits when he himself became ill.

Greg loved his son, Jerome, and his grandchildren. He was a great father and grandfather to them all. “Granddaddy” went to great lengths to spoil them every chance he could.

Greg departed this life on November 10, 2017. He leaves to cherish precious memories, a son, Jerome (Arlekoa) Bellinger; five grandchildren: Tatiyana, Emanuel, Eva, Ashanti, and Otonio; his mother, Irma Kohn; a niece, Kendra (Derek) Briscoe, and nephew, Adrian Bellinger; five grandnieces and grandnephews; as well as many other loving relatives and friends.
