Gladys Viola Wilson Lee, the daughter of the late Richard Saxby Joyner and the late Cora Wilson, was born September 9, 1928 in Kingsville, South Carolina. She was raised by a loving cousin the late Lucille Finch, who was a local school teacher.
She was the wife of C.D. Harrison, of Gaffney, South Carolina and the mother of a daughter, Cynthia Harrison and of a son, Dexter Harrison.
She was educated at Stoney Hill School, Webber School and Schofield School of Aiken, South Carolina.
During her early life, she accepted Christ and has raised her children in the admonition of the lord. Prior to her death she had become a member of Greenview First Baptist Church where she was served by and served with Ward One. She really had a special love for the Youth Ministry and supported as often as possible.
She, along with her children, migrated to Inwood, New York, where they lived and she became employed by the Baff family who have always loved her and accepted her as family. During this time, she helped to raise two children of the Baff family, Janice and Linda, simultaneously while raising her own two children, Cynthia and Dexter. She was a phenomenal mother. She loved her family and was often spoken of as “one who would give you the clothes off her back”. She often provided comfort with her wisdom, emotional support and her exceptional and enduring wit. She loved to laugh and recall humorous instances from her life.
She especially enjoyed traveling and found great pleasure in reminiscing about her travels.
Anyone who knew her, knew of her avid love for dogs who she cared for as if they were her children.
She is pre-deceased by her husband, C.D. Harrison; her daughter, Cynthia Harrison Saunders; six brothers, Blease Wilson, and Joseph Wilson, Robert Seymour, William Seymour, Paul Seymour, Peter Seymour and a sister, Marie Wilson Holman Rivers.
Those whom Gladys has left to celebrate her life with great love, honor and respect are: her son, Dexter Harrison; son, Larry Patterson; grandson Charles Macon; brother, Cole Wilson; great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins and let us not forget her three furry friends, Buster, Tory and Peppers.
