Mrs. Evelyn Douglas Brice Nixon was born March 18, 1948 in Columbia, South Carolina to the late George Goodwin, Sr. and Mary Alice Johnson. She received her primary school education in Richland County and graduated from C. A Johnson High School in Columbia. She attended St. Paul Baptist Church in Columbia for decades and later transitioned to Ridgewood Baptist Church. Throughout her tenure at St. Paul, she served selflessly as the church musician— playing the piano and organ. She graduated from Allen University. She worked for the Moncrief Army Hospital on Fort Jackson for the Red Cross, in Central Appointment, and later in the retirement section.

Evelyn’s first union was to Grover Washington Douglas. After his untimely death, she met and married Charles Brice. In 2004, she met Marvin Nixon, and they were married in March 2009. These unions produced two children, Lyndon Lamar Douglas and Patrick Lashawn Brice.

Evelyn was a fun, loving, hardworking, and wise woman who gave her understanding personality attributes to all she met. Her charisma rubbed off on everyone. Her influence contributed to her family, friends, and community. Her name, spirit, and charisma remain on our lips, stored in our memories, and etched on the hearts and spirits of all she knew.

Evelyn leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Marvin Demetrius Nixon; two sons, Lyndon Lamar Douglas and Patrick Lashawn Brice, all of Columbia, SC; a brother, Nobert Beyah  of Georgia; a stepdaughter, Niesha Micoe Nixon of Columbia, SC; a  mother-in-law, Ora Battle of East Irvington, New Jersey;  brothers-in-law: William Charles Nixon of East Irvington, New Jersey and Richard and Robert Battle, both of New Jersey; sister-in-law, Geraldine Battle of New Jersey; grandchildren: Lyndon Lamar Douglas, Jr., Linda Douglas, Tyrek Douglas, all of Columbia, South Carolina; Kiara Douglas of Pennsylvania, Tyree Douglas of Easley, South Carolina, and Alicia Walker also of Columbia; many great- grandchildren, other loving relatives, and dear friends.
