Emma Addison Obituary

Ms. Emma Jean Addison was born May 26, 1938, in Richland County, SC to the late Thomas Curry and Jimmilean Robinson Curry Jones.  She departed from this life on Thursday, September 19, 2019, at home surrounded by her loved ones.

Ms. Addison attended Booker T. Washington High School, and later received an Associates Degree in Secretarial Science from Midlands Technical College.  She was united in holy matrimony to the late Willie Frank Addison, Sr. and from that union had four children:  Willie, Adam (deceased), Darrell, and Eugene. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Ms. Addison retired from Belk, formerly known as J.B. Whites, after 26 years of service.   However, her love for people, endless energy, and out-going personality would not allow her to merely sit home.  Accordingly, after traveling extensively, she used her energy and love for people to impact the lives of kids and their parents, by volunteering for 17 years as a Foster Grandparent, which she was well loved by the kids, parents, and co-workers.

Ms. Addison was a long-standing and faithful member of Second Nazareth Baptist Church, where she joined as a child.  Though Ms. Addison was the last of her nine siblings, she was not alone. She was always surrounded by family and friends, attending her grandchildren’s events, going out to dinner with her “Belk Girlfriend Birthday Club” members or her regular outings and lunch with Ms. Doris Heller, traveling and extending herself to her neighbors and friends.  She loved cooking, reading, traveling, listening to music and dancing. However, her greatest love was her family; especially her grandchildren. If you knew Ms. Addison, you knew of her grandchildren, because she talked about them all the time.

Ms. Addison was a loving, caring, and out-going person.  She was preceded in death by her husband, both parents, her daughter (Miranda L. Curry), and her nine siblings.  She was a loving, caring, and out-going person. Her legacy will live in those who know and love her. She leaves to mourn her passing but cherish her memory, three children:  Mr. Willie F. Addison, Jr, (Rhonda) and Darrell B. Addison, Sr. (Vickie) of Charlotte, NC, and Mr. Eugene K. Addison, Sr (Yvette) of Columbia, SC; one nephew whom she raised: Paul Porter of Los Angeles, CA; five grandchildren:  Tasha Addison and Darrell B. Addison, Jr. of Charlotte, NC, Devin B. Gibbs, Eugene K. Addison, Jr., and Megan Y. Addison of Columbia, SC; and four great-grandchildren: Antonio R. Alexander, Mo’Riyah L. Addison, and D’Moni K. Addison of Charlotte, NC and Devin B. Gibbs, Jr. of Columbia, SC; three sister-in-laws:  Caroline Curry of Tampa, FL, Hope Curry and Elizabeth Rook of Columbia, SC.; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She fought a good fight, she has finished the race, she kept the faith, and have taken a whole of eternal life.
