Edward D McNair Sr.

Edward McNair Sr. was the youngest of ten children born to Charlie and Ruby McLeod McNair in Scotland County, North Carolina. He was predeceased by his parents and nine siblings. 

Mr. McNair was a career military personnel, serving more than 22 years in the United States Army retiring as a Sergeant First Class.  He received numerous awards and medals including the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars and Korean Service Award.  He served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

 Following his military service, Mr. McNair worked as a civilian employee at Ft. Jackson for many years.    During his civilian years, he was an active volunteer in his community.  Most notably, he has delivered meals for the local Meals-On-Wheels for many years and has been a weekly volunteer at the A. J. Lewis Greenview Elementary School for more than 20 years.  He assisted with early morning traffic control, mentored students, and served as a testing monitor.

Mr. McNair has been an active member of Francis Burns United Methodist Church since 1972.  He was a member of the Church’s Senior Choir, United Methodist Men, and participated in the weekly Men’s Bible Study.  He also provided consistent leadership in the United Methodist Men Service Project providing meals at Providence Home, a local shelter for homeless men.

In his spare time, Mr. McNair enjoyed bowling, working in his yard, and gardening.  He shared the fruits of his labor generously.

Mr. McNair will be greatly missed by his loving wife and personal nurse of 56 years, Doris Baltimore McNair; two sons, Edward Jr. (Melanie) and Gerald; two grandchildren, Chelsea and Kameron McNair; brother and sister-in-law, Alphonso and Teresa Baltimore; and numerous nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
