Eddie Corley Obituary

Eddie Lee Corley was born on April 8, 1938 in Irmo, South Carolina. He was the oldest son of the late Eddie and Kizzie Lee Kinard Corley.  He departed this life on Monday, August 12, 2019.

Eddie joined St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Irmo, SC at an early age and was educated in the public school system of Richland County, South Carolina.  He graduated from Richlex High School, Class of 1957.

After graduating, he enlisted in the military and served in the United States Air Force for three tours of duty, United States Army, United States Navy, and the Air National Guard. His military tour of duty allowed him to serve overseas in Japan and Germany.

Upon completing 34 years of military service, at various times, he was employed with the Motor Pool Department at the Pentagon, as a mechanic.  He was also employed as a limousine driver in Washington, DC, a school bus driver with Rochanbeau French International School in Bethesda, MD and with the Richland/Lexington School District 5.

Eddie was a great human being.  He was most passionate about family and children.  He liked spending time with his family, laughing, traveling, driving (he could drive for hours without complaint), and cooking.

He was an over extender in every facet of his life, helping others regardless of his time and responsibilities.  If you asked people who knew him what they thought of him, they would say “he was so sweet,” and “Mr. Corley was one of the nicest men I’ve ever met” and “Eddie helped everybody” and “he was well liked by everyone who knew him.”  Eddie was a kind and gentle spirit loved by everyone.

In 1966 Eddie married Minnie Deering Corley.  They raised four children, Robert and Ronald Garrison (from a previous marriage), and Robin and Roger Corley.  In 1997, he married ShaRon Clemons Corley.  They raised two children, Marcquel Douglas and Ezekiel Corley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Kizzie Lee Kinard Corley, one sister Theodora Lyghts; two brothers-in-law James Robinson and Eugene Burton.

Eddie Lee Corley leaves to mourn his wife ShaRon Clemons Corley; children: Robert Garrison (Maria) and Ronald Garrison (Barbara) (both from Orange Park, FL), Robin Corley Andrews (Hyattsville, MD) and Roger Corley (Washington, DC), Marcquel Douglas and Ezekiel Corley (both from Columbia, SC).  Siblings: Roberta Eskew (James) and Shirley Burton (both from Irmo, SC); Minnie Powell (Edward) (Upper Marlboro, MD); William Corley (Matilda) (Washington, DC); Chirdell Meens (West Columbia, SC); Frances Robinson (Irmo, SC), and Glenn Corley (Nannette) (Gaithersburg, MD).  One aunt, Blanche Mouzon (Columbia, SC); one brother-in-law, Desmar Becton (Washington, DC); 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
