Doris Ware was born October 7, 1946 in Indianola, Mississippi to the late Nathaniel Pittman and Idabell Echols. Doris departed this earthly journey on October 8, 2019.
Doris was educated in public schools of Vidalia, Louisiana. She received her Associate’s Degree from Nassau Community College in New York. She worked in NY County Detention Center, the Special Education School System, and NY Bus Transit System. She took on many roles, but most importantly, the roles of a faithful, loving wife, nurturing mother, loyal friend, and counselor. She was of a short stature, reaching 5’2” but she stood tall against anything or anyone. She was the best of both worlds, and now she is being strong in a new place.
Doris was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Shayla Minger; and her brothers, Robert Pittman, Cornelius Pittman.
Surviving to cherish her memory are: her husband, Augusta Ware of Columbia, SC; daughter, Melva Battle (Dwayne Nelson) of Columbia, SC; son, Kenneth Simon (Tarsha Simon) of Richmond, VA; sisters, Frances Williams White, and Norma Sims, both of Vidalia, Louisiana; grandchildren, Tyrell Minger, and Tylecia Battle both of Columbia, SC and Kamari Simon of Richmond, VA; and a host of loving cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-grandchildren, and many friends all of whom will miss her dearly.
