Arline Green B. Murphy passed away on Thursday, August 30, 2018. She was born January 1, 1944 to the late Andrew Green, Sr. and Elizabeth Harmon Green. She attended public schools in Richland County, and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1963. She worked as a kindergarten teacher and teacher’s aide in the Richland County Head Start Program, and as a Child Development teacher in Richland County schools, as well as the states of California, Florida and New Jersey. She retired in 2005, after working in education for over 30 years. She served as a poll manager for the South Carolina Election Commission, and regularly volunteered for various charity organizations. As a young adult, she joined Zion Baptist Church where she served as a Missionary, then later became an active member of Brookland Baptist Church.
Arline is survived by husband Isiah Murphy; children, Nathaniel E. Barnes, Jr., Deshawn E. Barnes, Richie D. Barnes (Michelle), Mario A. Barnes (Rosalind), and Audrey L. Murphy; former daughters-in-law, Melinda White and Katrina Williams; grandchildren, LiShanti K. Barnes, Richád D. Barnes, Raven Q. Barnes, and Anastasia Kennedy-Speight; great-grandchild Reese K. Hill; sisters, Jacqueline Green and Andrena Fletcher; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by siblings Andrew Green, Jr., Dorothy Gamble, Henrietta Seabrooks, Theodore Green, Beverly Parker, and Thomas Green.
