Andrew James

Mr. Andrew James was born November 3, 1958 to the late Joseph and Ludell Garrick. He entered into eternal rest on Monday, November 26, 2018 surrounded by family.

Andrew joined St. Mark Baptist Church at an early age. After his sickness and confinement to a wheel chair he attended when his health allowed him to do so. 

“Rookie” as he was affectionally known, worked as a welder at Owens Steel. He loved spending time outdoors and enjoyed doing so with his children. Going to the flea market and car auction were among one of his most treasure outings. He also loved to work on cars.

He was joined in holy matrimony to the former Essie Cantey on September 23, 1989 in Columbia, SC.

Andrew is preceded in death by: his parents, Joseph and Ludell Garrick; six brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Andrew James leaves to cherish his precious memories: his caring wife Essie Cantey James of Columbia, SC; beloved son Joseph Andrew James of Doraville, Georgia, loving daughters Michella Oree of Gaston, SC and Sarah Cantey-James of Columbia, SC., brothers, Jimmie James (Patricia) Louis (Tomiko) James , Ulysses (Gale) James, Joseph Garrick, sisters Leola Jackson, Mary (Harry) Jackson, Deloris Robinson, Betty J. Leaks, Rebecca (Julius) Huguenin, Mary Branch, and Cherry Garrick, two loving aunts Rosa Bell Jackson and Lucy Jackson, two grandsons De’ Kari and Joshua, one granddaughter Zyon of Columbia, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends whom will miss him dearly.
