Mrs. Almena (McCallum) Watson, affectionately called “Mena” by her husband, was born on July 23, 1932 in Rowland, North Carolina, to the late Earnest and Leatha (Bridges) McCallum. She left this early life Saturday, August 18, 2018.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and four sisters, two sons and one daughter. Sis. Almena Watson became a member of Progressive Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in Hopkins, SC on April 3, 1983 by being baptized in the name of Jesus Christ according to Acts 2:38 and received the Holy Ghost according to Acts 2:4. In previous years she was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary and was a member of the Senior Holy Lights singing group.
She was a good wife an exceptional mother, excellent cook and a very wise woman. She said some funny things but they had some great wisdom behind them. Most of all she had a very sweet spirit and she trusted in God whole heartly.
She was educated at the public school, South Side in Rowland, N.C. She was employed by Richland School District One Food Service Department. She was joined in marriage to Mr. Charles Prentis Watson, on July 17, 1956. This union was blessed with nine children, James Luther Watson (Deceased), Wilhelmina Watson-Colclough, Cola SC, Diane Watson (Deceased), Mary Louise (Craig) Golston,Cola SC, Cynthia Watson, Cola SC, Missionary Brenda C. (Jeff) Wallace, Hinesville, Ga., Charles P. (Sharon) Watson, Jr., Monroe, NC, Sandra Renea Watson, Cola SC and Baby Boy Watson (Deceased). She is the grandmother of 13; and the great grandmother of 21+. She is also survived by two half-brothers Tat and George Davis of N.C., one half-sister Carrie Moody of N.C., two sisters-in-laws; Cleo Southern of Philadelphia, Pa. and Sarah McCallum of Greensboro N.C. and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and other loving relatives and friends all whom will miss her dearly, but rejoice that she is resting in the Lord.
