William Holland Haynie, Jr., age 73, passed on Saturday May 21st at his residence. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland and was the son of the late William Sr. and Aileen Day Haynie.

William was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He served in the military for several years as well as two tours in Vietnam. During his military career, William earned several medals, ribbons and commendations, including: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (eight campaigns), Vietnam Campaign, Army Service Ribbon, Combat Infantryman Badge, three NCO Professional Development Ribbons, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, two Overseas Service Ribbons and Sharpshooter (Rifle). As a retired veteran, William was heavily involved in his church as a Deacon at Greater Young Zion, under the leadership of Pastor William Blount, in Augusta, Georgia, and was also a member of Truelife Church, under the leadership of Pastor DaVon Alexander, in Matthews, North Carolina.

He enjoyed being around his children and grandchildren and was a beloved uncle and brother-in-law. He took his role as father and grandfather very seriously. He was very influential and touched the lives of everyone he came across.

He was predeceased by: his parents; his brother, Gerald Smith; and brother-in-law, Lawrence Morris Gordon.

William is survived by: his wife, Felice (Gordon) Haynie; his children, William (Amy), Wesley (Nicole), Wayne and Warren (Andrea); and thirteen grandchildren. He is also survived by: his sisters, Joann Haynie McDonald and Geraldine Haynie Mernick; brothers-in-law, Felix (Mala) Gordon Jr. and Julian Winford (Faye) Gordon, Arnold Neil (Alane) Gordon-Bray and Michael Wayne (Cassandra) Gordon-Bray; and twenty-two nieces and nephews.
