Sylvia (Peeples) Harris

Sylvia Ann Peeples Harris was born on June 10, 1952, into a loving family of faith, love, service, compassion, and benevolence to Dea. James and Elise Peeples in Barnwell, SC. On March 7, 2018, she was received by her Heavenly Father as her purpose on this earth had been fulfilled.

On December 7, 1978, she married Willie Scott Harris. In this 33 year union, she loved and support her husband while celebrating what life had to offer them together.

Sylvia devoted her life to Jesus Christ at an early age and believe and spoke of the awesome wonders performed. She attended and matriculated through Barnwell County Schools. She also was a certified lab technician. She worked in state government for 33 years as a tax examiner.

As the oldest of 5, she began growing in her divine walk that became her purpose. Sylvia allowed God to transform her into a servant. She took up the role of oldest each and everyday that she lived, a badge that she wore with honor.  She protected her family, loved her family, was a pillar of strength for her family and gave unmatched support to her family.

The thing that made her eyes sparkle and her heart smile was, of course, centered around food. She LOVED cooking. Cooking for everyone and wanting everyone to have the absolute best every time she served or entertained.  She completely understood the power of a meal knowing that it nourished but also broke down barriers and renewed spirits. She loved hats of all stripes and wore them well.  She had an affinity for jewelry, fine arts, shopping, reading traveling and her loved cat Big Baby and puppy Jakxon who was affectionately called “Rudie.”

Sylvia loved God with unwavering doubt of his sovereignty and power.

She was preceded in death by her father James Peeples, mother Elise Peeples, sister Hattie Lee Peeples and husband Willie Scott Harris.

Those that will live and cherish her legacy, her brother Ben Peeples, two sisters, Kathy (Leon) Adams, Ogretta Peeples all of Columbia, SC and Annie Melrose (Melvin) Counts of Barnwell, SC – reared in the home;  three nephews Broderick Adams of Atlanta, GA, Lloyd Adams of Columbia SC, J’Michael Peeples of Charlotte, NC; one niece Keisha Adams of Columbia, SC, step daughter Racquel Anita (Elbert) Ruff, two stepsons Franklin (Kimmy) Scott and William Harris; five step-grandchildren and a host of loving relatives and friends that will remember and rejoice in her service and her life.
