“Rev”, as he was affectionately known, had a very ambitious spirit which lead him to several odd jobs, one of which being a roofer, where he first laid eyes on Janie Reaves, the love of his life, while standing on top of a roof. He and Janie later married beneath the roof, and together they created a lifetime of memories.
“Rev” transformed his life at an early age and became a servant of God. He dedicated over 40 years to serving and preaching God’s word. His ministry began at Mt. Sinai AME Church in Elgin, South Carolina where he spent three years as the head pastor before moving onto Cedar Groove Baptist Church in Lone Star, South Carolina as their head pastor for 12 years, and then Antioch Baptist Church in Ridgeway, South Carolina for 13 years. He spent his final years sharing God’s words at the Temple of Christ Missionary Baptist Church which he founded some 15 years ago.
“Rev” wore many other hats as well. He was a barber for more than 30years and as a business owner.
In addition to his parents, Reverend Scott was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Scott, Jr, and his sister, Mae Francis Watkins.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Janie Reaves Scott; eight children: Aurelia Howell, Janie Rogers, Robby Jones, Ivy (Nehru) Powell, James (Mamcha) Scott, Jr., Arnold (Tomeca) Scott and Angel (Timothy) Peters; 29 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and one great-great grand; his sister, Hazel Scott; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
