Nancy attended Webber Elementary, W.A. Perry Middle School and Booker T. Washington High School. She received her Diploma from Richland County School District One. She was employed by the South Carolina Department of Mental Health until she became disabled and retired.

She later became a member of First Nazareth Baptist Church (Columbia, SC) where she served as an usher, dutifully showing her love for the Lord and support for her church and Pastor Scott. Nancy truly enjoyed worship, and her unique style of praising the Lord was guided by the words of her favorite passage of scripture: Psalms 100. She could be found in church each Sunday, making a joyful noise unto the Lord, serving him with gladness and singing with the kind of joy that was contagious to everyone around her.
Nancy enjoyed traveling with family and her longtime friend, Pat Johnson. Her travels included Mexico; Jamaica; Atlantic City, New Jersey; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Esau Simuel; her parents, Ruben (Pearl Garrick); her daughter, Talitha "Renee" Garrick; and her siblings, Delores Berry, Margaret Holmes and Elizabeth Marshall.
