Leroy “Sally” Walker, the son of the late Garrison and Alberta Whitaker Walker, was born on December 12, 1939 in Columbia, South Carolina. He departed this life on October 26, 2016. He was married to (the late) Virginia Goines, also of Columbia. They were blessed with a daughter, Hope C. Walker.

He was educated in Richland County public schools. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1963; and with more than twenty-two years of honorable service, he retired in 1985. After his retirement from military service, he settled in the Greenview community.

Leroy was affectionately nicknamed “Sally” because of his stark resemblance to his grandmother who was also named Sally.

As a teenager, Leroy enjoyed playing baseball with his cousins and friends. He often joked about his skills as a hitter and often compared himself to such baseball luminaries as Larry Doby and Ted Williams. He recounted details of his baseball exploits to his many friends and associates who came by the house for a chat while sitting under a large oak tree that remains there today.

Leroy developed a love for auto mechanics from his father, Garrison, and his cousin, Phillip Boler, Sr. He could be seen on any given day watching each respectively, as they repaired automobiles, pick-up trucks, lawn mowers, and practically anything that moved on wheels.

He leaves to cherish his fond memories his loving daughters, Hope C. Walker and Janice Roberts; a beautiful granddaughter, Karrington Roberts; his brother, Robert M. (Carolyn) Walker; an aunt, Sarah G. Walker; nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law: Delores Goines, Linda Wood and Carolyn Seaton; brother-in-law, Larry Goines; cousins, other relatives and dear friends. We each share in the many special memories of Leroy and rejoice in the knowledge that he is now resting with the LORD JESUS CHRIST.
