Lafayette Lorenzo Stephen
July 25, 1954 ~ May 1, 2017 (age 62) 62 Years OldLafayette Lorenzo Stephen was the beloved son of Johnnie and Geraldine (Boyd) Stephens. His journey ended on Monday, May 1, 2017 at Palmetto Health Baptist Hospital in Columbia, SC, when he was summoned by the Lord.
He attended Bethel Hanberry Elementary and Middle Schools, and graduated from Spring Valley in Richland County. During Lafayette’s employment, he held various positions. He worked for Richland County, the City of Columbia, Westwood High School (Service Solutions) and lastly, was self-employed as a transporter, selling nonferrous materials.
Lafayette really had a good time and enjoyed life to its fullest. Lafayette was a phenomenal DJ back in the 1970’s/80’s playing nothing but “oldies” for family events and other special gatherings. Lafayette had several outdoor hobbies and activities. He enjoyed playing golf; outdoor cooking; listening to music; talking with “the boys” (preferably under a tree); laughing and telling jokes (lies); and simply reminiscing over the good ole days.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Reginald Stephens.
Lafayette leaves behind: his son, Derrick M. (Leah) Dixon; his daughter, Chrystal (Chrystal Ball) S. Tucker; his loving parents, Johnnie and Geraldine Stephens, both of Columbia, SC; two sisters, Vivian (Minister Albert) Thompson and Allyson (Alvin) McMichael, both of Columbia, SC; two brothers, Perry (Patricia) Stephens and Theodore “Teddy” Stephens, both of Columbia, SC; his grandchildren: Derrick Dixon, Jr., Devin Dixon, Deneathia Dixon, Aljohnna Tucker and Travmajar Thomas; aunts: Alethia B. Cummings of Denmark, SC, Juanita B. Cooper and Carol B. Boyd, both of Washington, DC, and Vernelle B. Jones of Madison, NJ; sister-in-law, Vernell Stephens; and a host of nephews, nieces, other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom mourn his departure, but rejoice he is now with the Lord.
