Joseph Nelson, Jr. was born July 22, 1952 in Columbia, South Carolina. He was the beloved son of the late Joseph Sr. and Sarah Nelson. He entered into eternal rest on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at the Warrior’s Walk of the WJB Dorn VA Medical Center.

Joseph, or “Hollywood”, as he was affectionately known, attended Booker T. Washington High School. He was reared in the Wheeler Hill Community where he learned the value of being a good steward. He was always a great communicator which was evident through the compassion he expressed for others in his daily life. That upbringing led Joseph to join the Job Corps and later the United States Marines Corps.

Joseph loved to dance almost as much as he loved his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Margie Anderson, and brothers, Eugene Anderson and Bobby Nelson.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ida Mae Brown Nelson; his children: Charlean Glover, Natalie Nelson, Arthur Glover, Jr., Sirrore Glover, Joseph Orlando Nelson (and their mother, Annie Nelson), and Eugenia Nelson (and her mother Janice Nelson); 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sister, Linda Nelson; and brothers, Johnny Mickens, Minister Larry (Loretta) Anderson, and Anthony Nelson. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and dear friends.
