Johnny Lee Bookert, 69, passed away at his home on Saturday, July 29, 2017. Born October 18, 1947 in Columbia, South Carolina, he was the son of the late John Wesley and Viola Bowman-Bookert.

He attended Booker T. Washington High School, and was later employed as a construction worker. He retired from B&H Pavement.  He was a member of Village of Hope Fellowship.  Johnny had an infectious smile and a courageous spirit that radiated joy to anyone that met him.  He was loved by all with whom he came in contact.  Johnny loved to play baseball, watch soap operas and also watch a little sports, from time to time. He spent most of his weekends watching his favorites: the old westerns.

Johnny was preceded in death by his longtime companion of more than thirty years, Ms. Johnnie Mae Brown, whom he loved and cared for deeply, and his brothers: Odell Dreher, Herman Corley, Thomas Bowman, Willie Stokes, John Wesley Bookert and Malverse Bookert.

Johnny Lee Bookert is survived by: his daughters: Falisia Brown, Kimico Bookert, Krystal Lorick, Angela and Gwen; his sons: Clinton (Sherry) Brown, Johnny and Isaac; his sisters: Janie (Ernest) Darby and Mary Francis Bookert; fifteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; and many other loving relatives, in-laws and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
