John Goodwin was born July 17, 1949 in Columbia, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Ned and Carrie Lou Goodwin. He departed this life on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at his home.

John was educated in the public schools of Richland County, graduating from C.A. Johnson High School in 1968. After high school, he joined the United States Navy. While in the military, he received the National Defense Service Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. Following his military service, he worked for South Carolina Electric & Gas, where he was a dedicated employee for 37 years.

In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by a brother, Ned Jr., and sister, Mary.

John leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Elder Susie Mae Goodwin; three daughters: Sonya, Jamillia, and Camillia Goodwin; two sons, Travis and Benjamin Goodwin; a sister, Gail, and brother, Nathan Goodwin; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild; three sisters-in-law: Elease Aquil, Elder Lessie Taylor, and Shirley Joyner; three brothers-in-law: Pastor Allen Joyner, Bishop Kenneth Taylor, and Dawud Aquil; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and caring friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
